SPEAKER WIRE
This is a type of bulk wire used to connect loudspeakers to audio amplifiers. Traditionally, the designs of a speaker wire included a pair of electrical power wires for the loudspeaker. Nowadays, modern speakers have two electrical conductors in their wiring systems. Each of these conductors is insulated by a plastic and although the wires seem to be identical, they are marked for easy polarity identification. Standard speaker cable you use in your home has either two sets of wire made of either copper or aluminum or a combination …

Other touch controls come into play depending on which feature you’re using. For example, when in video mode, new player controls will appear on the left side of the display (or on the bottom if you’re watching videos in landscape mode). And when you’re snapping photos, even more touch controls appear to let you manipulate the shooter. The concept is similar to the ModeShift keypad on the Motorola Rokr E8 in that the controls appear only when you need them. Otherwise, they’ll vanish to avoid a cluttered look.
As for physical …

The camcorder shoots clips in three resolutions and it offers a similar set of editing options. Clips meant for multimedia messages are capped at six seconds, but you can shoot for longer in normal mode.

Nokia Maps is out, and AT&T’s TeleNav GPS is in. It’s not as pretty as Maps, but, it locked on to our location much more quickly, offering audible driving directions. Sadly, there’s no pedestrian mode. But if you don’t like TeleNav GPS, feel free to use Google Maps. That’s one of the joys of the E71x: For almost every built-in function, there are two or three downloadable alternatives.
The bundle of entertainment apps that AT&T has included are a mixed bag. Cellular Video, AT&T’s streaming video service, plays smoothly but is …

With 3G connectivity, you’ll be able to access AT&T’s Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company’s 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) While using Video Share with family and friends is a fun way to communicate, it’s also very useful for business. For example, a …

Despite all these other features, e-mail remains the heart and soul of the BlackBerry. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 can sync with your company’s BlackBerry Enterprise server, with support for Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino, or Novell GroupWise, to deliver corporate e-mail in real time. There’s also an attachment viewer for opening Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel WordPerfect, PDF, JPEG, GIF, and more. With BlackBerry Internet Service, you can also access up to 10 personal/business POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail accounts. Set up is nearly instantaneous; we simply input our Yahoo log …

On the left side, there’s a single user-programmable shortcut key (launches voice dialer by default), while there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack, a volume rocker, a MicroUSB port, and another customizable side button (assigned to the camera out of the box). The camera and flash are located on the back, and behind the battery cover are the SIM card and microSD expansion slots. We would have preferred that the expansion slot be on the outside for easier access, and we also weren’t huge fans of the little plastic piece that held …

The Home Screen and interface has been tweaked and customized for Sprint. You still get the larger clock and you can view such information as upcoming appointments, missed calls, and new messages. The toolbar icons are slightly different, a little more aesthetically pleasing in our opinion, and you also get a dedicated Sprint TV shortcut. As far as ease of use, there’s a slight learning curve to the TouchFlo interface. Basic navigation is pretty simple to master, but once in other applications, it can be confusing as to how to …

Whether you’re using it as a modem or just cruising the Web on your device, you should get some good speed given that the HTC Touch Diamond works with Sprint’s EV-DO Rev. A network. The Rev. A bumps up download speeds to the 600Kbps-to-1.4Mbps range versus 400Kbps-to-700Kbps, while upload speeds will average around 350Kpbs to 500Kpbs (compared with EV-DO’s 50Kpbs to 70Kbps). In short, you’re going to get faster Web browsing, e-mail, and downloads–that is, if you live in a coverage area. Alternatively, you can also hop onto any available …

A dual-band (800/1,900-MHz) CDMA phone, the Lotus supports Sprint’s EV-DO Rev 0 data network. It’s not a particularly good voice phone. Reception-wise, the Lotus consistently showed one to two bars less than a Sprint BlackBerry Pearl 8130. It did an admirable job of holding onto what little signal it found in a rural part of Massachusetts, with no static or background noise at all, but experience occasional dropouts in the audio. Sound quality was fine to other callers, though voices sounded somewhat hollow in the earpiece on my end. Worse, …
